Palm M100- Super Buy! Highly Recommended September 12, 2000 mike (Rhode Island) 183 out of 187 found this review helpful
I Recently bought the M100 after comparing the IIIE, IIIXE and Handspring Visor Models. What made me buy the Palm M100. Three reasons. 1. Palm's reputation of quality, and the look. I'm sorry but it's cool. Sure the screen is a bit smaller, but I'm not writing War and Peace on this thing! 2. The fact that I only wanted to replace my organizer and have room for a couple of games. Actually I have over 15 games on this along with a good chunk of info and still have over 75% of memory. Sure 8 mb is nice to have, but it's also another $100 bucks. I can't see myself spending more money on additional game-boy like cartridges. Sure for developers and heavy power users the visor is probably the way to go, but I didn't like the fact I had to pay $179 for a visor and another 30 bucks to serial link it with my older computer. That's $209 plus tax to start versus $149 for the Palm. Moreover, the Visor 8mb would have been over $279 dollars vs. $149 just to start out. FORGET IT. Like I said remeber what you are buying it for.!! 3. The way the standards are evolving and the way new devices are coming out, the next best thing is always around the corner, so again remind yourself what you are buying this for. The way I figure if something too cool comes out, (say after 6 months or so,when the flash module palms, new visors or the next best pocket pc version comes out, I'll just give the m100 to my daughter.
Sweet price point for a basic organizer August 24, 2000 90 out of 90 found this review helpful
I am a computer programmer. Yet I hate to deal with complicated interfaces. I want to press as few buttons as possible to get the job done. This Palm, or any other Palm allows you to do what you want without fuss. With a Palm organizer, you spend far more time using the device than in the care and feeding of the device.Where this one does well is that it is a perfect entry-level organizer for people who have been put off by the high price of, say, a Palm Vx. It is simple. It is clean. My mom could use it. Most people need a basic organizer, with maybe, one extra application. For them, this Palm shines. 2MB is a whole lot of memory unless you want to jam half-a-dozen AvantGo channels into it. That said, the flip cover looks really cheap and does not snap to the bottom of the device. It does not add much protective value to the device. The plastic casing seems sturdy. Mine has already withstood a 7 foot drop onto carpeting with not a scratch. The screen though smaller is sharp (when compared to my older PalmPilot, and easy on the eyes). The clock is a nice additional touch. If you've been waiting to ditch your paper organizer, this is the time.
Graet Buy, Definitely Recommend!!! September 18, 2000 53 out of 53 found this review helpful
This is the best Palm out yet. The Palm 100 is all you need for the average person's daily needs. Though not expandable. It has plenty of room for games like Galaxa, Black Jack, etc. Also installed on my Palm M100 is the NYC subway map, Tip Calculator, Expense Tracker and lots of neat stuff available on the internet for free. The Palm M100 screen is a tad small, but is definitely usable. I am not reading or writing the Constitution on my Palm. In fact the screen on my Palm M100 is clear as glass compared to ther older Palm's with their gritty plastic screen like surfaces. The synch cable that comes with the Palm M100 instead of the cradle is only a keeping up with the Jones' personal attribute of an individual. The synch cable that comes with the Palm M100 more than suffices for all that it is needed for which is the transfer of information from your desktop PC to your Palm M100. I definitely recommend the Palm M100 for its easier to hold contour grip shape that is naturally more comfortable to hold than other straight edged models which I beleive prevents unnecessary drops and facilitates easier writing. The weight of the Palm M100 is considerably less than all the other Palm's my fellow co-workers have. I love the flip over pad like front cover. Buy it, you won't regret it. I don't need a Palm to surf the internet, make purchases or execute stock trades. The Palm M100 is the best model for me and the price is terrific, right on target. Keeps all the information that I need on a day to day basis for my work and personal needs. I think it is also the most attractive of Palms. You can also change the face plate colors, if you're one of those types who feels the need to personalize all your possessions. Satisfied Customer NYC

I've used Palm PDA's for 4 years now (I began with the PalmPilot Personal - 512kb), PalmPilot Pro, Palm III, V and now Palm m100; I carry it everywhere!, they're really awesome and so useful.. their strenght resides in their simplicity.. and believe me,2mb is more than enough! (I consider myself an average user) If you need more memory, color, Internet, fancy software, "expansion slots", MP3 player, r you need to write a novel, buy a laptop! , so my advice to anyone looking for a Palm PDA or clone is: stick with the simpler (cheaper) ones (IIIe, m100) becouse: 1)these things keep changing-evolving very fast, in a couple of years (even before you fill your 2mb +3500 address entries) you will be ableto buy a newer entry-model with 32mb :) for the same price..and still your total cost will be less than buying a $300+ model now 2)Carrying one *everywhere* exposes them to many things and replacing a $300+ Palm is painful. (i learned that the hard way he). 3)You will be able to do the SAME than wthe other models. of course you won't be able to see your phone numbers in color or download a 4mb e-book but..who really does? those things are not practical anyway.. I think the whole point is, Palm should keep them cheap and simple.. like the m100 IIIe
Great value for those of you counting your pennies. November 15, 2000 49 out of 50 found this review helpful
The M100 is the second handheld I've purchased. I purchased a Windows CE handheld made by Casio over a year ago but returned it one week after buying it. ... .This time, I went for a cheaper one. ..., the M100 seemed to be a good candidate. I didn't expect much from it, given my past experience. I have been extremely happy with the M100. It has never failed me yet. It syncs up well with my laptop and I have installed several third-party software on it with no trouble. Although the memory on the M100 is limited, I've never used more than 75% of it. The only thing that I can say bad about the M100 is that it doesn't come with cradle. ..., I'll let that one slide! If you don't need a color display or internet capabilities on your handheld, I'd highly recommend this product.
