Hope for the Startrek brand in gaming February 12, 2010 Eric DeMarco 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This game is not perfect but where this game sets itself apart is the fact that it is 800 times better than any other startrek game. So please support it so they can build on it. Beam to planets & stations. Space flight inside specific systems in well designed, rich in color, and most important fun. Co-op play is fun too. This slso has a 3rd person shooter. Suggestion buy a lifetime membership.
Star trek Honest review March 5, 2010 Jonathan James Coan 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Hi all
i would like to start off this review with my overall rating of this game then ill explain why
my overall rating of the game is good infact alot better than many people say
the reasons i like the game are
the graphics are pretty good not the best but good
one server for all that is just totally awsome (i wish with all my self other games did this and there are many reasons why )
life time membership (wow (( life time memberships ))
things i dont like about the game
old engine (now that was just totally cheap and almost did not buy the game on this fact alone
ground combat is very basic and slow for example there are hesitations if you try to do a special move and fight
and several moans and groans on varios gameplay options
but remeber this its just a game definatly not the best and does need improvements but all in all its a good game

Space..or at least Cyberspace.
If you are a fan of the shows and films, i can suggest this for no other reason as it will be the future of Star Trek.
If you are not a fan, i can suggest this game for the game play and many options given in character creation and in the constant ability to configure and change everything about how your game play style works.
If there is something that you have found fun in an other game, I.E. Role Playing Games or shooters they can be found here with loads of surprises.
As has been stated before, yes there are times in which the servers do not respond. Or there are some buggy sections, but the team running the game are really working 24/7 to make this as good as it can be.
So i suggest you as a potential player consider the following.
1. It's a official Star Trek MMO, there is a great deal expected of it.
2. It is being run by the best MMO coders in the biz.
3. Atari, Cryptic, CBS as well as Paramount are all behind this game. So the funds are there to make the game the best MMO on the net.
4. For the Trekers out there i have only two words for you. "Star Trek".
I personally have found the game loads of fun, and a very good Trek experience.
So beam on down and join the future of Star Trek.
Live long, and prosper.
Trolls are trying to destroy the game! February 19, 2010 Jeffrey A. Gossett II (Ohio) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
Star Trek Online is a great game to play for the casual player. Sadly, there are a lot of trolls, World of Warcraft players and other gamers trying to make this game fail. They often get on forums and complain, even though they play the game often.
I would have to admit this game is still in its infancy stage and trying to grow. Cryptic is trying to expand the game, what is humanly possible. Even though players have really high and hard standards for the game.
The Federation side is great! You can create your ships or your own alien race. The PVP (Player vs. Player) and PVE (Player vs. Environment) are done very well. The story mission is very interesting.
The Klingon side is only PVP right now. They do have some PVE content. Cryptic is going to expand on this.
Cryptic also is going to expand on more faction to play as such as the Romulans and Cardassian. They plan to add more missions. They are working on more Borg content to play against.
Star Trek genre has two sides of the coin. One is the philosophical and exploration side of Star Trek. There is the other side that is more like J.J. Abram's Star Trek movie and it is shoot them up and blow things up.
This game is not the philosophical side. It is the action and blow up things side. I think this is good for Star Trek and Star Trek Online to be able break into the mainstream and not stay in the geek's mom's basement. People loved the movie because of the action in it. I don't think the movie and the game would of done well, if it was not action packed.
In the J.J. Abram's Star Trek a supernova explodes and destroys Romulus (Home world of the Romulans). Than Spock tries to create a black hole and was sent back in time with the villain Nero. Nero than destroyed the planet Vulcan and created an alternate timeline.
The game takes place in the original timeline and does not throw out the supernova part. Star Trek Online take place after the supernova and the Klingons decide to invade Romulan Space. This causes the beginning of a galactic war between the Klingon faction and the Federation faction gets sucked into it. You are a captain on ether side and your job is to fight the enemy.
As the year goes on the game will have way more content and the kinks should be ironed out. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE TROLLS. Try the game or wait a little while, since it is a very new game. The game is going to get huge. It is already fun for Trekies and later non-trekies will be hooked. Give it a shot it will not kill you to do so.
YOU MUST BE A TRUE STAR TREK FAN TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS February 16, 2010 Kevin K. Owens (Miami, Florida) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
When I play a game where natural and biological necessities become an interruption, the game is great. It has everything in it from THE ENTIRE STAR TREK UNIVERSE. (The original, TNG, Voyager, The Movies, enterprise, etc...) I am blown away at the detail. Also, you can tell that they spent years doing this, and making all of the story lines cross. Plus they managed to balance it where the game play is not so hard at the beginning but as you move up in rank, (I'm a Commander now) It gets more difficult.
The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. One day, I decided to not do any missions. I simply beamed up to my Star Ship and took my own tour. I did this because I had noticed on some of my missions the alien planets were so beautiful and different I was taken away by it, thus getting killed by the Klingons in the process. There are like 20 different aliens. Some you know and some you don't because you can create your own race. All of the Ships are amazing and to right to spec. Then you have some new ones.
The Borg... need I say anything else. The doomsday machine is now controlled by the Klingons. You will encounter Species 8472. You even get a promotion ceremony every time you make rank in the Earth Space dock. It is also a great place to meet people ;-). You can even invite guest to your bridge. The uniforms (especially on the ladies) look great. I can go on and on, but just let me say, I have every Star Trek Game ever made, this is the best because now you have all those games and more. I can actually get in the universe now. This is an MMO, (Massively Multiplayer Online) which means the game will expand and grow, and Cryptic has already promised to add new things to it, and are depending on us "the fans" to shape what they add.
If you love Star Trek, you owe this to your self. BUY THIS GAME!!! And please understand, with some people, even if you really beamed them to the Enterprise, they STILL wouldn't be pleased. They would still have something negative to say. It's about time we have a STAR TREK game that brings the generations together. My son and I play it for hours. I have my version, he has his. He can be in trouble fighting Romulans he will call me from another sector, and I'm there. We have beamed down to planets together. Stepped through the gate of the "Guardian of forever" together. This game will only improve. That's why I'm a "lifer". When it does, I will be there. May you visit every star and come back to tell us the story. I hope this helps.
